2021 summer GCSE exams have been abandoned and teacher assessed grades have been introduced instead for students in college or school to get their GCSE grades. GCSE grades are vital qualifications since they are required for employment and further education such as University courses and A levels. If you are not in mainstream education and you are an external candidate, there is some uncertainty how you can secure teacher assessed grades. This page should help guide you through teacher assessed grades and other qualifications that are GCSE equivalent.

Teacher assessed grades for those in schools and colleges

The teacher assessed grades can be supported with extra evidence to help improve your grade. MME is an establishment that provides people the opportunity to sit exams like mocks which are controlled assessments for GCSE maths exams. The results will be sent to your teachers at your college or school as extra support for your grade. You should also carry on trying your best in ongoing work that the college or school have given and the mock exams.

GCSE Exams and GCSE resits

Even though the GCSE exams this summer have been cancelled, the November GCSE exams 2021 are still going ahead as normal as well as the iGCSE qualifications. You can call MME on 020 3633 5145 to book in as an external candidate for this exam. There is a page dedicated to the  GCSE maths retake on MME’s website to provide you with further information.

Teacher assessed grades for external candidates

MME and GCSE examiners have been working together to provide a solution for those who aren’t in mainstream education, to get a teacher assessed grade this summer. They have worked hard to come up with a number of assessments to help provide you with a GCSE grade. You are able to book in for the GCSE maths controlled assessment through the link.

Alternatives to GCSE exams and teacher assessed grades

There are a number of alternative qualifications you can take instead of the GCSE exams. You will see the phrase  ‘Give your GCSE or GCSE equivalent qualifications‘ when applying to establishments such as University and jobs since they are accepted by them. A name that is commonly used instead of GCSE equivalent qualifications is functional skills, that at a level 2 are equivalent to a GCSE grade C/level 4. There is more information about this qualification in the links provided below:

Nurses and Trainee Teachers

There is another qualification that you can obtain if you are looking at teacher training or nursing courses. The qualification is a GCSE equivalency test which is accepted by the vast majority of employers and Universities but not all, therefore you want to check with them beforehand. This qualification is increasingly popular amongst teacher training courses since SCITT and training providers favour it over functional skills.
